Data Collection & Acquisition

Electronic data collection has become a vital part of the litigation process. Due to the changes in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures (FRCP) regarding the handling of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) as well as the states ever-changing regulations, collecting data for litigation is key to maintaining a defensible Chain of Custody. Typical collection methods include Forensic Acquisition and Logical Data Collection; the question has always been which one is the right choice. At Scarab we take a consultative approach to answering that question. We approach every case and collection with an open mind to which collection method is appropriate for the particular case. We try to both help clients be educated and knowledgeable on proper data collection and preservation techniques as well as make a determination if a forensic collection is right for the situation.

95% of Electronic Document Collections do not require a full forensic hardrive acquisition.

Logical Data Collection

Logical data acquisition involves making a duplicate copy of a set of data without modifying any pertinent meta-data or contents of the file. Scarab combines the superior performance of proven technology and industry-respected partnerships to create optimal results for data collection. Forensic Acquisition

Scarab understands that although most data collection can be done using a Logical Data Collection, there are times when a full forensic acquisition is the best method of collecting Electronically Stored Information (ESI). Typically, these cases tend to include Human Resources / Labor disputes, Intellectual Property cases, or governmental investigation such as the SEC. For these instances, or any instance where a Forensic collection is the best option, Scarab has teamed up with a global leader in computer forensics.
