History of Scarab

Scarab Consulting is a full service eDiscovery consulting company based in Houston, Texas with additional offices in New York, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. Scarab provides end-to-end legal consulting and ESI (electronically stored information) processing to Fortune 500 clients and large law firms, including many Am Law 50 firms. Scarab’s unique approach is to apply internally developed proprietary technology to traditional litigation services, providing greater efficiency throughout the litigation lifecycle.

The company was founded in San Antonio, Texas in December 2000 by, Tim Kaufeldt and Neville Haynes, who both shared a vision for how document processing could be done better and faster. With ambitions to become the leading provider of electronic discovery services in the United States, Scarab hit the ground running, immediately acquiring multinational law firm clients due to their technology expertise in litigation discovery.

Over time, Scarab grew its business by providing superior customer service and solid dependable results, which remain the cornerstones of their mission today. As Scarab continued to expand, they opened additional offices throughout Texas. In 2002, Scarab opened its second office in Austin, followed by offices in Dallas in 2005 and Houston in 2007.

In 2007, Kaufeldt and Haynes were approached by Ken Naumann and Dan Lensgraf, potential investors who wanted to help expand Scarab’s business to the next level. Naumann had recognized Scarab’s extraordinary level of customer service and dedication to technology innovation, and he and Lensgraf ultimately invested in the company as equity stakeholders. Initiating a new growth strategy, the company began building a client development team to further nurture customer relationships, as well as continuing to include a more consultative approach to eDiscovery. The company transitioned from being a traditional EDD provider to becoming a full service litigation consulting company.

In 2008, Scarab executed a number of acquisitions to expand its national presence. In May 2008, they purchased RLS Legal Solutions, and LIT Group, businesses with offices in New York, Dallas and Houston, as well as a litigation technology company, DigIT. RLS’s New York office broke the Texas state boundary for Scarab, allowing the company to gain access to one of the largest legal markets in the nation. In addition, DigIT technologies also brought unique technology assets to Scarab's eDiscovery offerings, having developed software specifically tailored to improving and streamlining the eDiscovery process. The most recent major growth move for Scarab came in December 2008 when the company acquired New York-based World Document Solutions, effectively doubling Scarab’s New York presence. Through this merger, Scarab gained possession of the most experienced team of project managers in New York, coupled with an expansive processing capability which made them a top five player in the competitive New York litigation support market.

Throughout its exponential growth to become a national category leader, Scarab still maintains its priority focus on customer satisfaction. The company is continuing to grow its business in Texas and New York by offering unique services centered around three primary business sectors: Knowledge Based Consulting, Traditional eDiscovery, and R&D / Technology.
